The following Notice from the Cairns Post 10th July 1942

The death has been announced from Brisbane of Major Colin Clyde Campbell, who saw service in the Boer and Great War.

He is believed to have been the first Australian to enlist at Innisfail in the 1914-18 war.

A brother of E.R.Campbell, a prominent cane farmer of the Mourilyan district , the late Major Campbell surrendered his commission as a lieutenant in the old Moreton Regiment to go on service in South Africa as a private with the first Queensland contingent, commanded by Major Ricardo.

Major Campbell went overseas with the early reinforcements  of AIF in 1914, and after been invalided home through wounds he returned to the front with the 42nd  Battalion.
